Minister of Lands, Chimwemwe Chipungu, has lavished praise on the newly launched Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Dashboard, calling it a “game‑changer” that finally drags constituency development out of the shadows and into public view.

Speaking in Parliament, Chipungu said the digital platform — unveiled by Local Government Minister Ben Phiri and his team — marks one of the most significant steps yet in the fight against secrecy and mismanagement in local development spending.

In a rare moment of cross‑ministerial applause, he said the dashboard “deserves national recognition” for putting power directly into the hands of citizens.

Chipungu told MPs the tool will allow Malawians to track every CDF project, monitor progress, and scrutinise how funds are being used — a shift he described as “long overdue” after years of complaints about ghost projects, inflated budgets and opaque procurement practices.

He said the dashboard’s launch signals a new era of public oversight, arguing that communities will no longer have to rely on rumours or political promises to know what is happening in their constituencies.

Instead, they will have real‑time access to data on project status, spending patterns and contractor performance.

The minister added that the platform will also help curb abuse by ensuring that MPs, councils and contractors know their work is being watched “not just by auditors, but by the people they serve”.

The CDF Dashboard is expected to become a central tool for civil society, journalists and community monitors as government attempts to restore trust in the management of development funds.

Prominent commentator Idriss Ali Nasser has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the arrest of activist Sylvester Namiwa, arguing that authorities badly misjudged their response and inadvertently elevated the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (Cdedi) executive director's standing by choosing to detain him. The State has charged Namiwa with treason and publication of [...]

ANALYSIS | The missing witness: Why has the Chilima inquiry not called Michael Usi?

He was late Saulos Chilima’s political deputy, confidant, government bridge and successor. So why is his voice missing from the inquiry? There is a curious omission at the heart of Parliament’s renewed inquiry into the plane crash that killed former Vice-President Saulos Chilima: Michael Usi. The question is not whether Usi is implicated in the [...]
